First photos of 2017

HomeastronomyFirst photos of 2017

Here’s the first images I have captured of 2017!

Orion's Nebula

Orion’s Nebula is a great place to look at it Dark Skies or even with a great entry level scope such as the Skywatcher Skyliner 200P, witness stars been born 1,344 Lightyears from Earth!

Betelgeuse

Betelgeuse, a huge Red Giant, nearing the end of it’s life, and possibly recently becoming so super massive, devouring a neighbouring star. One day, possibly soon, this star will run out of fuel and collapse under it’s own weight creating a supernova, which will be wonderfully visible from Earth. It’s 642.5 Lightyears away, meaning this could have already happened, and we’re just playing catch up with the light

M51 Whirlpool

M51 or the Whirlpool Galaxy is an incredible place some 23.61 Million Lightyears away, just think, the light that hit the sensor of the camera on this image last night, left that galaxy approx 23,610,000 years ago, it probably doesn’t look like this anymore. You can see on the image it smashing into it’s neighbouring galaxy.

M51 Whirlpool Widefield
